From Thursday, May 05, 2011, KSRTC started a Low Floor A/C VOLVO bus service on a trial basis for those passengers who reach the city by Jan Shatabdi Express. This bus will be operated from the railway station to the Medical College and back to East Fort. It will help the passengers residing near the places of Statue, Palayam, General Hospital Kesavadasapuram, Kumarapuram and Kannammoola.
KSRTC has obtained permission from the Railways to park the bus on the railway station premises according to the arrival of Jan Shatabdi so that the passengers do not have to hover around searching for the bus.
If this trial service found successful, this service will operate as a permanent schedule trip and a similar trip will be made available for the passengers of Venad Express too.
Presently, similar services are being operated from Kochuveli railway station in the early hours plying passengers to the city, which has been receiving a favourable response. The KSRTC is operating a low-floor AC bus every Friday in tandem with a train reaching the station at 3.10 am. In addition, another bus is being operated without schedule - as and when the railway authorities inform the KSRTC about the arrival of a particular train at Kochuveli.
There are 19 AC low-floor buses are being operated in Thiruvananthapuram under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) project.
